First ride of the year

I got out for a 90-minute ride today.  It was lovely and sunny but pretty cold.  I stayed in heart rate zones 2 and 3 so I could have done with an extra layer.  Although it was a road ride, I took out my gravel bike, still with 40 mm knobbly tyres on it and no mudguards.  It was fine as the roads had plenty of potholes and debris.  There were a lot of parked cars near popular walking spots; I suspect people getting out of the house as Tier 4 Covid restrictions apply here at the moment!

Total in 2021 so far: 32.66 km.

Nowhere near 5,000 km

So, I got nowhere near 5,000 km last year.  Lockdowns and life got in the way and I only managed 2,656 km in the end. 2022 is not starting much better.  I have been a bit unwell; it turns out there are illnesses other than COVID, who knew!  As a result I've only done 35 km in the first 9 days of 2022 so getting to 5,000 km looks to be a long shot.  However, I am going to be optimistic and set my goal of covering 5,000 km again this year.  My other resolution is to actually post updates occasionally! In other news, I got a new toy for Christmas - a ShadowStand .  This magic piece of perspex makes your bike appear to be balancing with no means of support in photos: ShadowStand magic! Perhaps taking photos will get me out on my bike a little more to try and be creative! Wishing you all the best for 2022, stay healthy and enjoy the ride/walk/swim/canoe or whatever your bag is.

Welcome

Welcome to "5,000 km in 2021" so called because I have set myself the goal of covering 5,000 km in 2021 by walking, running and cycling; indoors or outdoors as COVID-19 permits.  For some this is not a great distance but for me it is more than I have ever managed in a single year. Today was a very modest start with a short family walk to celebrate the new year.  Check back here throughout the year to see how I get on. Total in 2021 so far: 1.77 km.
